How chiropractic care can help you during your pregnancy

How chiropractic care can help you during your pregnancy
Many pregnant women experience aches, pains, and other health related conditions they may have never experienced prior. This could include low back pain, sciatica, SI pain, pubic pain, headaches, nausea, swelling, fatigue, and much more. Chiropractic care is a safe, conservative, and effective way to help manage many of the conditions that come along with carrying that little bundle of joy in the belly for 9 months.
During pregnancy the body undergoes many changes both hormonally and physically. This includes weight gain, anterior pelvic tilt, postural changes, laxity of ligaments from the hormone Relaxin, and other musculoskeletal conditions. This is not to mention all the emotional and additional hormonal symptoms that come with the package of pregnancy.
How can chiropractic care help?
Chiropractic adjustments help restore balance and alignment to the spine and pelvis. This helps mom feel better by relieving aches and pains and helps baby by freeing up space in the pelvic cavity for movement. If the pelvis is out of alignment, it can cause a restricted amount of space for the developing baby and lead to intrauterine constraint which may cause birth defects. In addition, if the pelvis is misaligned and unbalanced, baby may have a higher risk of getting into a posterior or breech position at the time of delivery. Regular chiropractic care can help avoid this as well as help to simply maintain an overall healthier, more comfortable pregnancy.
Chiropractic care is usually not contraindicated in pregnancy unless any of the following symptoms are experienced:
-vaginal bleeding
-placenta previa or placenta abruptio
-ectopic pregnancy
-moderate to severe toxemia (preeclampsia)
